LARA HATTINGH

Lara Hattingh is a South African artist and muralist based in Ōtepoti, New Zealand.

Working across oil painting, drawing and large-scale murals, her practice brings together vibrant colour, expressive mark-making and botanical forms to explore the relationships between people, place and identity. Lara creates work that is both intuitive and deeply connected to its surroundings.

Through her murals, Lara transforms everyday spaces into places of colour, character and connection, creating bespoke artworks that respond to their environment and the people who inhabit it. Whether working on a public wall or a canvas, she is interested in the ways art can foster belonging, celebrate local identity and bring new life to familiar places.

At the heart of her practice is an ongoing exploration of home, inheritance and the natural world - and how we carry a sense of place with us as we move through the world.
